A quick glance at our extensive menu is enough to let you know that if you hire Original Crêpes to cater at your wedding or party, your guests won’t have any kind of problem finding a flavour they enjoy – in fact the only complaint we ever hear is that there is too much choice and too many tempting flavours!
That said, everyone has their own favourites and if they aren’t included on the menu we can often find ways to add them. Some flavours, although not listed, are requested more often than others, with the most popular of these being jam or honey. At one wedding in Cheshire where our crepe van was hired, home-made jam – made by relatives of the bride – was added to the menu purely because the jam-maker was famous in the family for her damson jam and it was felt that offering it as a crepe flavour would help personalise the wedding.
At another wedding, held at a venue in the New Forest in Hampshire, a bride supplied honey which had been produced by bees on the groom’s grandfathers land. As the whole of that part of Hampshire is widely populated with heather, the honey had that particular heathery flavour with it and apparently worked very well on the crepes we supplied for the wedding breakfast dessert. (I can’t comment as I don’t really like the taste of honey so didn’t take the opportunity of trying one. I had to make do with a nutella one instead – it is indeed a hard life being a crepe chef for hire!)
The groom was also a budding apicurist so he took an interest in the honey-flavoured crepes, which turned out to be among the most popular at that particular wedding.
It always feels like a bit of a shame using honey as it is effectively stolen from the bees, so I usually feel a little bit guilty when making a honey-flavoured crepe. The guests usually seem to manage to overcome the guilt quite easily – though I’m sure eating a freshly-made crepe helps with that.
