Anyone reading the blog yesterday would have struggled to disagree that the weather was not ideal for what had been declared “National Ice Cream Day.” If they were to read that blog today however, they may disagree somewhat. After the washout that was yetserday, we have today been rewarded with an all-too-rare sunny, cloudless day. However, if the forecasters are to be believed, we are heading for thuunderstorms all day on Wednesday. No surprises there.
As we all know, the weather in England cannot be relied upon. In Scotland, you can more safely assume that it will be raining (we should know: our crepe van is often hired for weddings in Scotland, and it feels like rain is the default setting up there!) But across the UK generally, a hot and sunny day following one of cold and wet is no real surprise. If only they had declared the National Ice Cream Day for today instead…
If that had been the case, then the blog would have taken a different angle. We could have talked about similarities between ice cream and crepes within the context of weddings or private parties. For instance, the banana flavoured ice cream would have compared to a crepe flavour such as nutella and banana- always a popular wedding favourite. Of course, one would be hot and the other cold, but the flavour would still be virtually the same. Another would be strawberry flavour ices, compared to milky bar and fresh strawberry (probably one of our favourites and a pancake often chosen by brides on their wedding day).
Basically, we could have compared lots of flavours, from lemon to chocolate (and even flavours like Bailey’s are out there now, but we have been offering Baileys and chocolate pancakes for years), but there would have been little point: ice cream only really works well on a hot day, whereas crêpes are good for any occasion, any weather. And can the British weather be trusted sufficiently to take that risk? It depends how brave (or reckless) you are, I suppose.
So obviously we would recommend hiring our creperie for your wedding or party, but if you have been impressed with National Ice Cream Day and fancy taking a risk with the weather, you could always opt for an ice cream cart as well. Ice cream on a crepe always goes down well – especially at a sunny summer wedding – but if it’s raining or cold, your guests will be more than happy with a crepe or two.
