Our mobile crepe stand is hired for many different parts of the wedding day, from early afternoon canape alternatives; to wedding breakfast dessert; to evening reception food. And as result, we get to see lots of different parts of lots of different weddings. One trend which is catching on is the use of glow-sticks in the evening.
Glow-sticks can be associated with all kinds of things – from emergency lighting to nighclub accessories, but they are now catching on at weddings. They tick all the boxes: they are affordable, they can be fun, most people don’t use them on an everyday basis (in fact most people have never used them at all) and they can be used to add atmosphere, particularly to the evening part of the wedding.
Sometimes the lights are turned out for the final dance and guests are encouraged to recreate a festival feel by using the glow-sticks as an alternative to cigarette lighters. This is usually the case when the final song is one of those “Oasis” type, ‘dad-rock’ numbers, but perhaps it would be more appropriate if the final song was by The Darkness ! As chefs, all we ask is that the lights are not fully extinguished because we might have difficulty serving crepes from our mobile stand in complete darkness!
Another aspect to using glow-sticks is that they can be used to match any colour scheme you have in place for your wedding. Often, there is a wedding colour scheme but some brides don’t get too concerned about everything matching it, as long as there an overall bias. For others, there is a definite theme and wherever possible, the chosen colour is used. We find this with our mobile crepe bar which is illuminated and can display every colour imaginable. Brides will often specify a particular colour to match the theme for the day and our gallery page has many photos of the illuminated pancake stand at various weddings across the country, displaying various different colours.
One thing to consider with glow-sticks however is their potential to attract unwanted guests at your wedding. If it is a summer wedding with activities taking place outdoors in the evening, the exciting colours can attract a few moths and midges and similar – which is fun if you like watching bats fly around catching them – but if not, it’s probably best to have glow sticks for indoor use only.
