Weddings with a strong outdoor feel to them usually need a good selection of outdoor activities to keep people entertained and occupied. There are all kinds of things that can be done; some cheap, others more expensive. One of the cheapest ideas is the simple old hula hoop.
As this is a food related blog (we offer mobile crepes from a mobile crepe stand specialising in weddings) you perhaps initially thought that it would be the deep-fried compressed potato version. But no. I’m talking about the metre diameter, 15mm thick, circular plastic kind.
Picture the scene: you are standing next to our mobile crêperie at a wedding, eating your cheese and ham crepe, watching a few children happily running around playing with a couple of hula hoops, lacking the coordination to use them properly. A slightly intoxicated older guest decides he will relive his childhood and picks up a spare hoop lying on the ground. He too lacks the coordination to use it properly, but it makes for a far more amusing sight. You continue to munch on your pancake, laughing at the various wedding guests who step up and embarrass themselves trying to show the kids how it is done.
And there you go. Cheap, simple entertainment, vintage style.
But if you want to modernise things a little, you can now get 21st century, hi-tech hula-hoops. One with little lights in them.
So now picture the scene: you are at the same wedding and have ordered your second crepe of the evening from our crepe cart (we usually offer unlimited crepes at weddings, so feel free to try another). But this time, the sun has set and it is fairly dark. The kids have sensibly given up on learning the art of pelvis coordination and rotation and have gone back into the marquee. But Mr Intoxicated is still out there, determined that it won’t beat him. Except this time, not only do you get to laugh at him, but the illuminated hula hoop adds a slightly classy touch to the occasion.
So my advice would be this: by choosing fun options like illuminated hula hoops, you can spend less on outdoor entertainment, and invest more of your wedding budget in a memorable catering option – Original Crepes, for instance.
